Manifesta 10 European Biennial of Contemporary Art, San Pietroburgo

Manifesta 10, la Biennale di Arte Contemporanea ha aperto il 28 Giugno al Museo Hermitage di San Pietroburgo e aspetta i visitatori fino al 31 ottobre con oltre 50 artisti in esposizione e un nutrito programma collaterale.



Manifesta, insieme alla Biennale d'Arte di Venezia e documenta a Kassel, è una delle manifestazioni europee più importanti di arte contemporanea. Manifesta, nata negli anni '90 nei Paesi Bassi come evento “nomade” e piattaforma dinamica per lo scambio culturale, è giunta alla sua decima edizione. Località di quest'anno è il Museo Hermitage di San Pietroburgo, che festeggia il suo 250° anniversario. 



Negli spazi del Museo Hermitage sono esposte le opere degli oltre 50 artisti provenienti da tutto il mondo, alcune delle quali sono creazioni ad hoc per Manifesta 10, misurandosi con il contesto socioculturale della Russia contemporanea.



La Manifesta non si limita soltanto al museo, ma propone anche un programma pubblico, un programma educativo e la sezione Unlooped-KINO per i film. 



Questa offerta viene integrata dal programma parallelo, iniziato da Manifesta e realizzato dalla The Hermitage Museum XXI Century Foundation. Eventi indipendenti in concomitanza con la Biennale Europea di Arte Contemporanea che vogliono promuovere la vita artistica e culturale locale, facendola conoscere a un pubblico non solo regionale ma internazionale. 



La scelta di San Pietroburgo quale luogo per Manifesta 10 ha acceso un dibattito sull'opportunità o meno di realizzare un evento del genere in Russia. La direttrice e fondatrice Hedwig Fijen, che festeggia il suo 20° anniversario alla guida della Manifesta, non ha dubbi: “While our work may be conducted in realms of debate, negotiation, mediation, and diplomacy, it has achieved its result: providing a exhibition spaces for art to provide criticality, complexity and nuance.”
